Which Study Skills Help?

GCSE#5 — What can a parent do?
If you are not sure what to do here is some advice on around study skills that you can offer to your child.
One method that students are advised to do is to have lists. Lists can be great but only if they are managed well. If not, lists can become a hinderance.
I particularly like to have lists, but they can become useless when I don’t manage them well.
I often jot a list down and a piece of paper that maybe lying on my desk. However, it gets lost and then the list has become superfluous because of my management style.
If you find that you keep losing your ‘to do’ lists, or you find that it doesn’t suit you to keep them in your planner, then there are lots of different online tools that will keep your lists in one place. If these tools help you to stay on top of what you need to do, then they can be worthwhile.
Only you can choose the best way to manage your ‘to do’ lists, but take a look at these popular apps/websites that have been around for a while.

Stick with free options. You can get organised enough without spending money on productivity apps or upgrades. Remember to, that using paper and pen can be quicker than an app and just as effective.
What you want from a list:
— One that is always with you — so you can add to lists whenever you need to.
— Syncs across platforms — nothing does this better than paper and pen!
— Quick and easy to use.
— Helps you to prioritise your list.
— Adds to-dos to your calendar/planner.
-Lets you sort lists into different subjects — great for study.
What you don’t want from your list system:
— A different system on each device — one on your phone, one on your tablet plus 6 lists on scraps of paper scattered round the house.
— Something you can’t access when you are at school or college. e.g. if phones aren’t allowed.
— Too complex for what you need it to do.
— Takes too long to upload/open.
Find you perfect ‘to do’ list manager.
Try out a few options and see which one works best for you.
