Course Outlines for GradeBuster's courses
GradeBusters (Available Saturday & Wednesday) Autumn Term
This term focuses on introducing and extending an understanding of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and equals. It forms the basis for accessing an understanding of all mathematics through the Maths Makes Sense learning system.
Spring Term
This term focuses on consolidating the work done in the Autumn term, by using the pupils' emerging understanding to solve equations. The topics then progress on to working with the Geometrical properties of several polygons.
Summer Term
This term focuses on extending the work covered in previous terms by moving onto Long Multiplication & Long Division using a grid, as well as consolidating the understanding of working with fractions.
GradeBustersPLUS (Available Saturday & Wednesday)
Autumn Term
This term focuses on extending an understanding of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and equals. This is achieved by using the vertical formats to facilitate making the IMPOSSIBLE POSSIBLE, working with fractions and percentages of quantities, place value with decimals and working with decimal fractions.
Spring Term
This term focuses on consolidating the work done in the Autumn term, by using the pupils' emerging understanding to solve more complex equations. The topics then progress on to plotting coordinates in all four quadrants and working with Transformation Geometry including a careful analysis of Reflective Symmetry.
Summer Term
This term focuses on consolidating long multiplication & long division using a grid, finding fractions & percentages of quantities, working with equivalent fractions and problems involving fractions with different denominations.
GradeBustersELITE (Available Saturdays only)
Autumn Term
This term focuses on extending an understanding of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and equals with numbers of any size. Including Equivalent Fractions, + - ÷ Fractions with different denominations, × Fractions, Place Value with Decimals & + - × ÷ Vulgar & Decimal Fractions
Spring Term
This term focuses on consolidating the work done in the Autumn term, by using the pupils' emerging understanding to solve more complex equations, including 1, 2 & 3 step equations. The topics then progress on to plotting coordinates in all four quadrants and working with Transformation Geometry including a careful analysis of Translation,Reflective Symmetry, Enlargement and Rotational Symmetry.
Summer Term
This term focuses on finding fractions & percentages of quantities with increasing complexity leading to a careful analysis as to how to use a claculator efficiently, and an analytical approach to the Conversion of Units.
GradeBustersSECONDARY (Available Saturdays only)
This course is designed to run over two years covering several key GCSE topics. If students have modular exams they will be given past papers and mark schemes to work with, 5 weeks in advance of the exam. Once the exam is completed they will rejoin the group to continue with the current topics.
Autumn Term Y1
This term focuses on two main topics: (1) Algebraic Manipulation including Expansion and Factorisation of Expressions, and (2) Simultaneous Equations including Solution by Elimination and Solution by Substitution. A thorough review is also undertaken to ensure a complete understanding of all topics covered.
Spring Term Y1
This term also focuses on two main topics: (1) Pythagoras' Theorem including simple scenarios, the converse of the theorem and problem solving, and (2) Coordinate Geometry including plotting in 4 quadrants, finding the lengths of line segments and finding the mid point and gradient of a line segment. A thorough review is also undertaken to ensure a complete understanding of all topics covered.
Summer Term Y1
This term focuses on two main topics: (1) y = mx + c, including an analysis of Horizontal, Vertical and Oblique straight lines, finding the values of "m" and "c" and finding the equation of a straight line; (2) Inequalities, including Single, Double and Simple Linear inequalities. A thorough review is also undertaken to ensure a complete understanding of all topics covered.
Autumn Term Y2
This term focuses on two main topics: (1) Indices, including the index laws for Multiplication, Division, Power of a Power, fractional and negative indices, and (2) Solution of Equations including One, Two and Three Step equations and Equations involving fractions. A thorough review is also undertaken to ensure a complete understanding of all topics covered.
Spring Term Y2
This term also focuses on two main topics: (1) Transformation Geometry including Translation, Reflection, Rotation and Enlargement, and (2) Working with Circles including Circumference, Area and Angle facts associated to Circles. A thorough review is also undertaken to ensure a complete understanding of all topics covered.
Summer Term Y2
This term focuses on two main topics: (1) Problem solving by identifying Explicit and Implicit information, and (2) Working with Angles including parallel lines and properties of polygons. A thorough review is also undertaken to ensure a complete understanding of all topics covered.
